Utility consumers’ watchdog quits over budget
The state’s consumer watchdog resigned yesterday, fed up with state budget cuts that she says have hampered her ability to protect consumers in fights over proposed rate hikes by utilities.
“She is a very talented advocate and represented her clients very strongly,” said Anthony Alexander, CEO of Akron-based utility FirstEnergy.
This year gave her one of her greatest victories, an Ohio Supreme Court ruling on an American Electric Power rate plan, at the same time that she suffered a defeat from Kasich’s budget.
